La Joya High School has a lot to celebrate as the Blazing Coyotes BBQ Team made their mark at the London High School BBQ Regional qualifier meet held in Corpus Christi, Texas, on January 13. The talented students showcased their culinary skills, securing impressive rankings in various categories.

In the Steak Taco category, Diana Cerda and Limi Juarez demonstrated their prowess, claiming a remarkable 2nd place. Darian Garza, with his expertise, earned the team a 4th place spot for St. Louis Ribs. Additionally, the team's chili, skillfully prepared by Diana Cerda, Limni Juarez, and Angel Gutierrez, secured them a 5th place award. Not to be outdone, Darian Garza's exceptional Chicken dish also earned the team a 5th place award.

These outstanding individual performances collectively led the Blazing Coyotes BBQ Team to an impressive 4th place overall, solidifying their advancement to the State competition. The team's dedication, culinary talent, and collaborative efforts have truly paid off, and we eagerly anticipate their success at the upcoming State competition. The Blazing Coyotes BBQ Team are under the supervision of LJHS Culinary Arts Instructor Ms. Mariah Montalvo. La Joya High School is currently the only Rio Grande Valley School being represented at the National High School BBQ competition. The State competition will be in Burnet, Tx on May 4th with over 100 teams across Texas expected to be in attendance.
