Protocol and Communication for Weather Updates

La Joya ISD understands that the decision to open or close schools during inclement weather significantly impacts our families.

We also recognize that students benefit academically, socially, and emotionally from being in school. However, the safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our top priorities.

Official District Communication

The decision to cancel or delay classes will be made by the Superintendent of Schools after assessing all relevant factors, including weather conditions, road safety, and facility readiness.

When schools are delayed or closed, La Joya ISD will communicate updates through the following channels:

Automated Notifications

  • Text and Email Alerts: Sent to parents, guardians, and employees directly.

  • Phone Calls: Automated calls will be placed to families and staff.

Local Media

  • Updates will also be shared with local television and radio stations to reach a broader audience.

Note: Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure their contact information is up-to-date in the district’s communication system to receive timely notifications by calling their child’s campus.
